Solar RECs

Turn Pennsylvania Solar Generation into Recurring SREC Revenue

Every 1,000 kWh your solar PV system generates can earn a Solar Alternative Energy Credit (SAEC) — known in the market as an SREC. Emergent Energy registers your system with the PA AEPS program, reports generation monthly into PJM-GATS, and sells your credits through competitive markets.

    What Qualifies

    Any System Size

A solar PV system may be any size — there is no minimum. Residential rooftop arrays through utility-scale installations can participate in the PA AEPS program.

    PJM Interconnection

The system must be interconnected to a utility in the PJM RTO to participate in the PA AEPS program.

    Pennsylvania Siting for SAECs

Act 40 of 2017, effective 30 October 2017, restricts Solar Alternative Energy Credits to Pennsylvania-sited solar facilities. Out-of-state solar in PJM may still qualify for Tier I AECs, but not for the solar carve-out.

    When Credits Start

PA AEPS solar credits accrue from the later of two dates: the date a complete application is submitted to the PA AEPS Program, or the date of utility approval. Generation before both of those dates does not produce credits.

The practical consequence: file promptly after your Permission to Operate. Every month of unregistered generation is a month that cannot be credited. Once an application is complete, the program administrator provides written notice of the qualification decision within 30 days under 52 Pa. Code § 75.64.

    What the Application Needs

    Always required

    • Photos of all modules in each array.
    • A Certificate of Completion, Permission to Operate, or other utility document confirming commercial operation date.

    Required when applicable

    • A solar-dedicated meter photo or monitoring-portal screenshot if the application is filed more than 30 days after utility interconnection approval. Bi-directional meter photos are NOT accepted.
    • A site-specific electrical diagram showing battery location if a battery is installed.
    • A site layout plan for systems over 250 kW DC.

ROA or Schedule A — Authorising an Aggregator

A Recognition of Assignment (ROA) is required for leased or PPA systems using an aggregator. A Schedule A covers non-leased, non-PPA aggregated systems.

This is the instrument that authorises Emergent Energy to act for the owner — registering the facility, reporting generation, and selling the credits on the owner's behalf.

The Service: Register → Report → Monetize

    1. Register

We review eligibility, prepare the application and document pack, execute the ROA or Schedule A, and handle PJM-GATS facility setup.

    2. Report

Monthly generation data is entered into PJM-GATS to create credits — the monthly reporting cadence the program requires.

    3. Monetize

Credits are sold through RFPs and competitive markets — the same route we already use on the Tier II side.

    What SRECs Have Sold For

The weighted average price for solar credits in reporting year 2025 was $33.20 per credit, according to the PA PUC AEPS Annual Report. That is a historical reporting-year figure, not a current or forward-looking price.

Current market pricing is quoted at the time of sale and moves with the market. Submit your project details and we will quote against live demand when your credits are ready to sell.
